Defence Family Matters

defence family matters

Distribution and Mailing issues

dfm is available as a free subscription and is automatically sent out to serving members who have one or more dependants. For more information about getting the magazine or issues arising from distribution please select from the following menu

Service Member

defence family matters automatically goes out to Defence personnel who have one or more dependants. We use the PMKeyS database, the Defence employee pay information system, for the mailing list.

For us to be able to deliver dfm to your correct address, it is vital that your personal details are up to date and correct on PMKeyS. This can be changed through your PMKeyS account or failing that via the form AD150.

If you are separated from your family then you can have a magazine to their location as well. Email defencefamilymatters@defence.gov.au listing the subject as Separated. Provide us the address you want dfm to go to. Once you’re together again, let us know and we will delete the additional magazine sent out.

If your PMKeyS address is up to date and you didn't receive your copy of the magazine at the new address it the change may have occured between the magazine going out and the data being provided for the list.

Partner of a Service Member

The uniformed member of your family will automatically receive the magazine at the address listed against their PMKeyS address. If this is incorrect please ask them to check the address is correctly listed on their PMKeyS account. If it is correct then then please click on I did not receive dfm to help us resolve the issue.

If you are separated from the uniformed member of your family then you can have a magazine sent to your location. Email defencefamilymatters@defence.gov.au listing the subject as Separated. Provide us the address you want dfm to go to. Once you’re together again, let us know and we will delete the additional magazine sent out.

Ex-Partner of a Service Member

If your partnership has dissolved but you still wish to receive the magazine then please email us your name and address to defencefamilymatters@defence.gov.au

However, if you move house you must let us know by emailing us your old and new address. If we receive a returned magazine we will assume you no longer require it and will remove you from the distribution list.

However, if you move house you must let us know by emailing us your old and new address. Member of a Defence Related Organisation

We are move than happy to send you a copy of dfm. Please email us your name and address to defencefamilymatters@defence.gov.au, listing the subject as Member of a Defence Related Organisation. You may consider having it addressed to your position as opposed to name so that way you if you leave the position your replacement will continue to receive access.

However, if you move location you must let us know by emailing us your old and new address. If we receive a returned magazine we will assume you no longer require it and will remove you from the distribution list.

Reservist

Please email your name, employee ID number, and address to defencefamilymatters@defence.gov.au, listing the subject as 'Reservist.' However, if you move location you must let us know by emailing us your old and new address. If we receive a returned magazine we will assume you no longer require it and will remove you from the distribution list.

I have left the Defence Force

If you have recently left the ADF then your details should change automatically. However there can sometimes be a delay of up to two months from your leaving to our distribution list being amended. If you continue to receive the magazine after this time please let email us at defencefamilymatters@defence.gov.au and we will check your details each issue until they have been removed from the system.

I no longer want the magazine

If you are a Service Member and you do not want to receive the magazine in the future please email us your name, employee ID number, and your address. We will delete you from the distribution list each time it is created. Hopefully with your Employee ID we will be able to remove you from the magazine if you relocate. However if it does not happen, or you are still getting the magazine, then email us at defencefamilymatters@defence.gov.au and let us know.

If you are not a Service Member and no longer wish to receive the magazine please email us and mention the fact your are not a Service Member (so we know which list to check).

I receive multiple magazines addressed to the same surname at the same address

We try wherever possible to avoid duplication. However with 28,000 names it’s not always possible. Each time the list is created we do a sort against the same surname at the same address, deleting more than one instance where that occurs. However the information against Address 1 has to be identical for that to work. Eg 3 McDuff Street against one name would have to be exactly 3 McDuff Street against the other name. If the abbreviation St was used in one of those addresses we would not automatically delete the duplication.

If you and your partner wish to ensure you won't duplicate copies of the magazine, then please let us know. Nominate one of you to be taken off the list (see I no longer want the magazine). If in the future, you would like to get back on the mailing list please contact dfm and let us know.

I did not receive dfm

There are a number of reasons why this could happen.

Are you at a Transient Address?

We cannot deliver the magazine to a transient address. This includes blocks, ships, live-in-lines, barracks, rooms, cabins, or messes. The reason is that a high volume of mail is returned unopened from such addresses and in order to reduce wasted resources we elected to only ever send to a residential address or PO Box.

If you have to have a transient address listed against your PMKeyS account then consider emailing us at defencefamilymatters@defence.gov.au with the subject as Transient, along with your PMKeyS number, your current transient address, and nominate a residential address or PO Box that will be able to receive the magazine. If you leave that transient address we will assume you have moved and we will delete that additional magazine.

Did you change your PMKeyS address in the last month?

The data used to create the address list is typically up to four weeks old by the time the magazine starts arriving in homes. If you changed the address within that time frame then unfortunately the magazine will go to that old address. If you miss out please email us at defencefamilymatters@defence.gov.au and we will send you your missing copy.

Have you or your partner ever asked not to receive the magazine?

If you have previously said ‘No Thanks’ to receiving the magazine we will assume you did not want any future copies. If you wish to receive it once more let us know at defencefamilymatters@defence.gov.au and we will delete you from the ‘No Thanks’ register.

Your magazine was returned to us unopened

If you're an automatic recepient if a magazine comes back to us and the address has not changed we will assume an error has occurred and delete that address from the next issue’s distribution list. If this is in error let us know and we will put you back on.

If you're not an automatic recepient we have no means of finding your new address. So unfortunately we will have deleted you from our distribution list if mail comes back to us unopened from your last address. If you wish to be put back on the list then email us at defencefamilymatters@defence.gov.au

I would like a copy of the current issue and/or back issues of the magazine

Certainly. Email us which issue/s you are after, your address and how many you would like to defencefamilymatters@defence.gov.au. We typically have copies dating back the previous eight editions. However some issues may have run out.
