DDAAFS is accountable to the Chief of Air Force (CAF) in his capacity as both the Defence Aviation Authority (Defence AA) and as Service Chief, for the strategic management of Defence aviation safety and Air Force work health and safety (WHS). The Directorate contributes to the preservation
and enhancement of Defence capability by providing advice and information to personnel on best practice health and safety in all work environments and ensuring high standards of safety are applied to aviation operations across Defence. Accordingly, DDAAFS is the Centre of Expertise (CoE) for
aviation safety within Defence and WHS within Air Force.
