Senior Defence Committees
The senior Defence committees are one of the key elements of Defence's governance framework. There are ten senior Defence committees:

Defence Committee
The Defence Committee is the pre-eminent senior Defence Committee supporting the Secretary and CDF in meeting their obligations under the Ministerial Directive. It is the forum for deliberating strategic issues that require collective consideration in relation to the achievement of the results specified in the Ministerial Directive.
Chiefs of Service Committee
The Chiefs of Service Committee provides military advice to the Chief of the Defence Force to assist him in discharging his command responsibilities and providing military advice to the Government.
Financial Management Controls Committee
As a Subcommittee of the Defence Committee (DC), the FMCC monitors the financial controls environment, the remediation of ANAO findings and the risks to financial statements. In addition, the FMCC is tasked with the carrying out of any Defence Business Improvement Board initiatives; specifically those relating to financial management. The FMCC is also responsible for any other matters referred from the Defence Committee within the scope of its mandate .

Defence Capability and Investment Committee
The Defence Capability and Investment Committee strengthens independent review by seeking to ensure that resourcing, including capital investment and operating costs, is consistent with the strategic priorities and resourcing strategy of both Government and Defence.
Defence Audit Committee
The Defence Audit Committee is responsible to the Secretary for identifying good practice and opportunities to improve the performance and management of Defence activities relating to audits, evaluations, risk management and ethics awareness. It also reviews the preparation and audit of the Defence financial statements and provides advice to the Secretary on the adequacy of these statements.
Defence Information Environment Committee
The role of the Defence Information Environment Committee is to advise the Chief Information Officer as coordinating capability manager for the Defence Information Environment (DIE), on monitoring the development and sustainment of the current DIE and guiding the design and development of the information environment that will support future decision making in Defence, including future joint command decision-making.
Defence Occupational Health and Safety Committee
The role of the Defence Occupational Health and Safety Committee is oversight and assessment of Defence's strategic occupational health and safety plans and performance.
Defence People Committee
The Defence People Committee's role is to provide a strategic focus on, and to be an advocate for, the vital place of people in Defence capability.
Sub-Committees of the Defence Capability and Investment Committee
Defence Capability Committee
The role of the Defence Capability Committee is to consider and develop options for current and future capability. The Defence Capability Committee will focus on individual major capital investment projects.

Defence Infrastructure SubCommittee
The Defence Infrastructure SubCommittee is a subcommittee of the Defence Capability Committee. The role of the DISC is to focus on the development of Defence's enabling infrastructure and related services.
