Graduates in CIOG

Transcipt - Dean Mendygral

In choosing my first step out of university, I was eager to undertake a role that was exciting and full of new challenges. I came across the Department of Defence booth at a careers fair and after a short with the representative I decided on the spot that I wanted to be part of the Defence Graduate Development Program. Initially, I thought that the move to Canberra would be terrifying, however the Defence Graduate Development Program offered orientation events allowing for the graduates to become acquainted with each other on an informal level. These opportunities helped settle the nerves along with gaining new friends in a new town.

The best part of the Defence Graduate Development Program is it allows us to experience three different job roles within the first year, giving you a broad area of understanding of the Department, how Defence works and how we all contribute to defending Australia and its interests.

The transition from studying to working in ICT has definitely been a roller coaster ride. Being able to implement the skills I learnt at university into real world scenarios has been an exciting challenge.

Anyone should apply for the Defence Graduate Development Program, even if you have no concrete plan for your career path. The experiences and challenges that you will go through will open your mind to a whole new world. The friends you will meet a long the way in a new location is also be an exciting adventure to experience.
