Helicopter Systems Division

Capability Acquisition and Sustainment

Helicopter Systems Division

Helicopter Systems Division (HSD) acquires and sustains all Australian Defence Force (ADF) helicopters and tactical Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).

HSD is a key partner to the ADF in the generation of military helicopter capability.

HSD is currently responsible for a range of major capital equipment procurement projects and phases, and several significant minor projects. These are amongst the largest and most complex in Australia.

HSD's sustainment activities support the Army and Navy raise, train and sustain requirements and the current operational deployments to Afghanistan (Chinook and Shadow UAS) and the Middle East (Seahawk). Sustainment support is provided by HSD's Systems Program Offices (SPOs) based at Nowra for Navy Aviation and Oakey and Brisbane for Army Aviation.

The SPOs provide fleet wide engineering support, inventory management, contract management for deeper maintenance, and replacement support for ageing and obsolescent aircraft equipment.

Defence transfers a CH-47D Chinook to the Australian War Memorial (AWM) for historical purposes.
