About Us

Welcome

Australian Defence Simulation Office's principal roles are policy direction, collaboration, and coordination of simulation activities across Defence. In carrying out these roles the branch has prime responsibility for developing and overseeing the implementation of Defence Simulation Policy and the Defence Simulation Plan. Australian Defence Simulation Office staff promote the development of approaches to gaining and sustaining knowledge via simulation in order for Defence to make the best use of this technology wherever it can enhance capabilities, save resources and reduce risk.

ADSO prepared and operated the computer based simulation environment for the Joint Combined Training Capability during the Talisman Sabre 07 Exercise at Shoalwater Bay. Pictured is the Urban operations Training Facility built at Raspberry Creek at Shoalwater Bay.

The principle components of this simulation system were the JSAF force modelling simulation software, enhanced with VRSG software to provide on screen visualisation of all of the force elements in the exercise. These elements included the live or real soldiers, armoured vehicles and aircraft, the virtual players, AUS F18's and US A10's, using the Hornet Aircrew Training Simulators at Williamtown and the A10 part task trainers at Suffolk Virginia, and constructive (wholly computer generated) force elements.
