Divisional Overview

Capability Systems Division consists of the following Branches and Organisations. Their responsibilities are as follows:

Integrated Capability
Development
  • developing, in conjunction with other agencies, the long term view of capability development;
  • developing and sponsoring capability proposals to meet agreed capability requirements and projects;
  • supporting capability managers in the execution of their responsibilities;
  • sponsoring research and development tasks;
  • providing advice on Capability Systems matters so as to lead to more efficient utilisation of resources; and
  • providing operational advice and support to DMO project staff on Capability Systems matters.

Capability Operations & Plans


  • Capability Operations and Plans Branch comprises two principal elements: Operations and Plans.
    • The Operations elements composes of cost estimation and process support principally provide direct support for desk officer progression of projects. The cost estimation also supports broad overall program costing activities.
    • The Plans element provides long-range workflow planning and scheduling for the Division, decision support and knowledge management, and contributes to capability prioritisation and programming processes.

Rapid Prototyping

  • The Rapid Prototyping, Development and Evaluation (RPDE) Program is a Defence-owned organisation that is staffed by people from both Defence and Industry. The organisation has been set up to evaluate options to improve Defence's warfighting capability in the near-term, with an emphasis on NCW capability. A small standing organisation manages the RPDE program and the Program aims are achieved by creating task teams of experts from across Defence and Industry brought together to work collaboratively on issue's, questions or potential opportunities.

Office of Interoperability

  • The Office of Interoperability is responsible for oversight of interoperability issues concerning capability development. Broadly, interoperability issues include joint, combined and coalition operations, activities, and information sharing policies.
