The Defence mission is to defend Australia and its national interests. In fulfilling this mission, we:
- serve all Australians, and
- are accountable to the Commonwealth Parliament, on behalf of the Australian people, for the efficiency and effectiveness with which we carry out the Government's defence policy.
Defence Outcomes
Defence achieves this mission through the successful delivery of the six Departmental outcomes and one Administered outcome.
The six Departmental outcomes are:
- Command of Operations in Defence of Australia and its Interests;
- Navy Capability for the Defence of Australia and its Interests;
- Army Capability for the Defence of Australia and its Interests;
- Air Force Capability for the Defence of Australia and its Interests;
- Strategic Policy for the Defence of Australia and its Interests; and
- Intelligence for the Defence of Australia and its Interests.
The Administered outcome is:
- Superannuation and Housing Support Services for Current and Retired Defence Personnel.
The Defence Annual Report 2005–06 reports our achievements against these outcomes, in both financial and non-financial terms.
