An Operator Weapon Locating Radar soldier is a member of the Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery (RAA) whose mission is to provide firepower on the battlefield.
The role of the Operator Weapon Locating Radar on the battlefield is to locate enemy guns, mortars and rocket launchers to produce Artillery Intelligence for use by the battlefield commander.
The Operator Weapon Locating Radar operates and maintains radar and surveillance equipment used by the Surveillance and Target Acquisition Regiment.
Duties
- Brings the radar into and out of action.
- Collects data for radar survey tasks.
- Operates survey instruments to orient the radar.
- Operates the radar.
- Conducts tests and adjustments, services and maintains radar and surveillance equipment.
- Operates radar listening posts.
- Operates the Thermal Surveillance System.
- Operates the Ground Surveillance Radar.
- Collects and processes intelligence data within the Surveillance and Target Acquisition Cell (STAC) within the Brigade headquarters.
Employment Training
Operator Weapon Locating Radar Course: 10 Weeks at the School of Artillery, Offensive Support Division, Puckapunyal, Victoria.
Employment Location
Radar Operators are employed with 20th Surveillance and Target Acquisition Regimentwith its headquarters located in Brisbane, Queensland.
Pay
This particular job is classified as a pay group 3 occupation with progression to pay groups 4 and 5 after completion of further training and promotion courses. |
Civil Accreditation
This category's courses meet the requirements for both civilian and military authorities and will make you eligible for:
- Certificate II in Government PSP20104 is granted on being assessed as competent as an ARA Gunner.
- Certificate III in Government PSP30104 is granted to personnel on being assessed as competent as an ARA Bombardier.
- Certificate III in Business (Frontline Management) BSB30501is granted to personnel on being assessed as competent as an ARA Bombardier.
- Statement of Attainment towards Certificate IV in Government PSP40199 is granted to personnel on being assessed as competent as an ARA Sergeant and categorisation of Supervisor Locating.
