Following qualification as Combat Engineer, soldiers in the RAE can progress to a number of branch trades. These branches are detailed below with a short description and a career flowchart.

Driver Engineer

A soldier that is a trained and qualified Combat Engineer that is employed to drive both military mechanical and specialist engineer vehicles to transport personnel, materiel and plant equipment in an administrative or operational area.

Operator Plant

A soldier who is responsible for operating, maintaining and servicing a wide range of light, medium and heavy earthmoving / material handling equipment and driving military mechanical and specialist engineer vehicles in the performance of construction, repair, maintenance and combat engineering tasks, including specialised civil activities such as quarrying, road sealing and soil stabilisation. This particular job is classified as a Pay Group 4 occupation on completion of full trade qualifications.

Draughtsman Architectural

A soldier who is responsible for architectural, structural, civil design and drafting, using both manual and computer-aided techniques, to assist in the design, planning and conduct of construction, repair and maintenance projects. This particular job is classified as a Pay Group 4 occupation on completion of full trade qualifications.

Combat Clerk RAE

A soldier that is a trained Specialist Engineer Operator or Cbt Clerk as well as qualified in Combat Engineering. The SEO is responsible for administration in barracks. While in the field, the SEO will operate the Engineer Command Centres and be intimatley involved in the Engineer Operations and Intelligence Cycle within a Command Post environment.

Combat Storeman RAE

A soldier that is a trained and qualified Combat Engineer that is employed to manage, account for, purchase and procure stores and specialist engineer resources.

Explosive Detection Dog (EDD) Handler

An EDD Handler is a soldier that is competent in using his dog in explosive search operations working as part of an EDD and Engr Search Teams, in both urban and field environments on a range of Operations. He is trained in the maintenance and training of his dog. EDD are employed within Cbt Engr Regts and TE SME.

Technician Explosive Ordnance Reconnaissance (EOR)

Explosive Ordnance Recon Technichians are trained in and familiar with the processess to conduct of Render Safe Procedures (RSP), however, SNCO/WO only can RSP, on a variety of land service ordnance, aerially delivered and guided weapons, or any other explosive ordnance including biological, chemical, nuclear. The EOR Tech will carry out reconnaissance, ID, locate, evaluate finds and to advise on protective works to reduce damage. They have limited knowledge in the area of IED. These operations are conducted in a variety of environments including urban areas.
