5 MP Coy (SIB) - Canberra
It seems like only yesterday that the year got under way. The Coy has had one of its busiest years (I know they say that every year, but the statistics don't lie this time). This year not only was there investigations in Australia to deal with, but also numerous major overseas investigations and the subsequent deployment of Fly Away Teams and then six month deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, Solomon Islands and East Timor. Not a day goes by these days, when you can't open a paper and read about an ongoing enquiry being conducted by this unit.
The HQ itself has been running at full steam since the year began with not only investigations, overseas deployments, and finance and logistics to deal with, but also the addition of the Military Police Central Records Office has meant an influx of Freedom of Information Requests and Record Checks.
The year has certainly been dramatic with members appearing before two separate Boards of Enquiry (some even becoming famous in the papers or is that infamous?) and one more forthcoming. Despite all the press coverage, there is no doubt that the SIB reputation remained in tact. I would like to congratulate all those members that worked on all the Task Forces and major investigations for there excellent efforts.
As another year fades away into the sunset, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members of the Coy for there tireless efforts and wish them a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.
