INFANTRY STOREMAN

The Job

 

As an Infantry storeman, you are responsible for the essential logistic operation of an army unit. You control the issue and receipt of stores and equipment including field equipment, vehicles, weapons, clothing, radios and computers.

You will perform these duties as part of a small team, in diverse situations, ranging from a large Q store to a operating out of the back of a truck in the field.

An Infantry storeman also gets involved with the supply and handling of dangerous goods such as ammunition and explosives.

Rest assured, you won’t miss out on all the other activities in the unit. You will learn to shoot the F88 Austeyr Rifle, train as a rifleman and participate in live firing exercises and adventurous activities such as abseiling.

The Training

After you have completed Common Recruit Training (CRT) at Kapooka, you will be ready to start your Initial Employment Training (or ‘IET’ as we call it). We will teach you everything you need to be an Infantry storeman.

The Infantry Course is a 2 week course with on the job training. The training is conducted in Singleton, New South Wales. The Basic Storemans course is of two weeks duration, taught at the Army Logistics Training Centre. All your travel, accommodation and meals are free. Plus you get TAX FREE pay while you are gaining your new skill.

The Skills

As an Infantry storeman you’ll gain and develop a wide range of professional skills and experience that will be invaluable in any career you choose. You will be trained in the technical duties relating to the supply of goods and services. You will also gain skills in the handling and storage of dangerous goods. All these skills have accredited civilian recognition.

You will also learn skills in personnel management, communications and leadership, while enhancing your personal organisation and ability to problem solve.

Working as an Infantry storeman in the Army Reserve will help build your confidence, develop your teamwork skills and help give you that head start up the career ladder.
