Psychological Examiner

The Job

The mental health of Army personnel is just as important as their physical fitness. As a Psychological Examiner you will be part of the Australian Army Psychological Corps. You will assist Army psychologists in providing psychological advice to ensure that people are matched to jobs that best suit their capabilities. As a Psychological Examiner you will become a highly skilled technical assistan in the field of psychological assessment.

As well as supporting Army personnel, you will also get the opportunity to learn to shoot the F88 Austeyr Rifle and participate in unit activities such as adventurous training and sport.

The Training

Following successful completion of your Common Recruit Training (CRT) at Kapooka in NSW, you will be ready to commence the next stage of your training which is as a clerk. This will provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to work as a Clerk in a Psychological Support Section. This is then followed by a period of on-the-job training as a Psychological Examiner. As this component of your training is largely self-paced it can be completed within 3 to 12 months depending on the time you have available and your unit's needs. This on-th-job training culminates in a 2-week formal course at the Army Logistics Training Centre in Albury-Woodonga on the NSW-Victorian border. Following successful completion of this course you will be ready to commence work as a Psychologica lExaminer. As with all Army Reserve training, all your travel, accommodation and meals are free. Plus you get TAX FREE pay while you are gaining your new skills.

The Skills

As a Psychological Examiner you will work with our psychologists to provide testing assessments for entrants to the ADF, as well as counselling and other support services for ADF members applying for special postings, courses or transfers. If you have got an eye for detail and like analysing information, then this could be the field for you. You will build on these skills and learn about correct job design, statistical analysis, and decision-making. As well as this, you will gain new skills in time management, personal organisation and teamwork to name just a few! A career as a psychological Examiner will be rewarding, interesting and challenging.
