As a Medical Orderly, you are responsible for the well being and health of the soldiers in our units. It is an important job, as our Infantry units cannot operate safely without high quality medical support.
A Medical Orderly works closely with the soldiers in an Infantry Company, administering first aid and educating the soldiers on the prevention of disease in the field. Your job may also include assisting doctors and nurses in the care and treatment of patients.
In addition, you
will get involved in other unit activities. You will learn to
shoot the F88 Austeyr Rifle, and participate in live firing exercises
and adventurous activities such as abseiling.

After you have completed Common Recruit Training (CRT) at Kapooka, you will be ready to start your Initial Employment Training (or ‘IET’ as we call it). We will teach you everything you need to be a skilled Medical Orderly.
The Medical Orderly Course is a 2 week course. The training is conducted in Albury, New South Wales, at the Army Logistics Training Centre, or in the unit. All your travel, accommodation and meals are free. Plus you get TAX FREE pay while you are gaining your new skill.
After this course
you will have all the basic skills necessary to administer aid
and advise on the prevention of disease in the field.

As a Medical Orderly you’ll gain and develop a wide range of professional skills and experience that will be invaluable in any career you choose. You will be trained to provide emergency care and treat causalities in a hospital and in the field.
Medical assistants are trained to use and maintain specialist medical equipment, manage medical databases and provide ongoing advice and education on health. All the skills you learn have accredited civilian recognition.
