Infantry Soldier

The Job

As an Infantry soldier you will work as part of a section. A section consists of nine men working as one to achieve all the tasks no matter how difficult.

It is an important job, with great rewards. Making sure that your ability matches that of your mates builds confidence and allows individuals to strive for greater achievement.

As an Infantry soldier, you are the guy that makes it all happen. The soldier of today is well trained, with a fierce determination for success.

You will learn basic field craft and a vast array of weapons. But this is not all you do. You will participate in Adventurous Training activities such as abseiling and white water rafting.

The Training

After you have completed Common Recruit Training (CRT) at Kapooka, 6 weeks in length, you will be ready to start your Initial Employment Training (or ‘IET’ as we call it). We will teach you everything you need, to be a fully skilled infantry soldier.

The IET CSE is conducted over 2 weeks, followed by on the job training. The training is conducted at the Infantry Training Centre at Singleton in New South Wales, and we also run our own courses here in the unit. This training teaches you all about your responsibilities and how to join a professional team. All your travel, accommodation and meals are free. Plus you get TAX FREE pay while you are gaining your new skill.

The Skills

As a Infantryman you’ll gain and develop a wide range of personal skills and experience that will be invaluable in any career you choose. You will learn skills in personnel management communications and leadership. You will enhance your personal organisation and learn the ability to problem solve.

Working as part of a section will also help build your confidence, and develop your teamwork skills. As an Infantry soldier, you know you can get the job done!
