Combat Engineer

The Job

As a Combat Engineer you are a member of a nine-man section, working as a team to complete a huge range of battlefield tasks.

Combat Engineer (known as Sappers) are integral members of a close knit team Within a Combat Engineer Regiment, Combat Engineers are responsible for: Demolitions, Equipment and Non-equipment Bridging, Waterborne Operations, Explosive Ordinance Disposal, Mine Warfare and Booby Traps, Horizontal and Vertical Coonstruction, Plant Operations, High Risk Search, and Chemical Defence to name but a few.

Engineers are the busiest soldiers on the battlefield and the most highly qualified. As well as being an Engineer, you will be trained in infantry skills as your secondary role.

The Training

To become a Combat Engineer, first you must complete Common Recruit Training (CRT) at Kapooka, Wagga Wagga, New South Wales. You will be ready to start your Initial Employment Training in Sydney (‘IET’), where you will learn all the skills of a Combat Engineer.

The Combat Engineers Course is broke down into 3 separate two-week modules which can be completed over an 18-month period.

You will be accommodated, fed and transported for free, and receive TAX FREE pay while you are gaining your new skills.

The Skills

As a Combat Engineer you will gain and develop a wide range professional skills and experience that will be in valuable in any civilian career that you may choose.

You will learn "Sappernuity" (to adapt and overcome) and skills in personnel management, leadership and communications while enhancing your personal organisation, as well as gaining the ability to problem solve.

Engineers provide a unique challenge to anyone interested in a part-time military career.
