GENERAL
RAAF Security Police (SECPOL) provide a security and policing capability to Air Force that supports force protection and the maintenance of morale and discipline.
Employment streams. The SECPOL mustering consists of three employment streams:
a. Security and Law Enforcement (SLE),
b. Military Working Dog Handlers (MWDH), and
c. Service Investigations (SI).
Security and Law Enforcement Responsibilities. SLE are multi-roled to provide Law enforcement, including immediate response tasks, investigation of minor offences, & protective security functions.
Military Working Dog Handler Responsibilities. MWDH are multi-roled to provide policing and physical security as part of their duties including after-hours policing and immediate response tasks. MWDH also provide a man-trailing capability in support of ground defence operations, specifically scouting and clearing patrols.
Service Investigations. SECPOL SI, as part of the Australian Defence Force Investigation Service (ADFIS), conduct serious/complex investigations both within Australia and externally on operations. SECPOL SLE personnel can apply to join the ADFIS subject to meeting the entry requirements.

Pre-Requisites
General qualifications for RAAF enlistments are specified in DI (AF) PERS 2-1 and those for remuster in DI (AF) PERS 5-7.
Methods of entry to the mustering. The common methods of entry to the SECPOL Mustering are:
a. Direct entry enlistment and completion of the RAAF Recruit and Service Police Basic Course in addition to successful completion of either the SLE or MWDH basic courses;
b. SI re-streaming is IAW the minimum requirements as detailed below;
c. Re-muster in accordance with the provisions of DI (AF) PERS 5-7 and completion of the Service Police Basic Course and either the MWDH or SLE basic courses; and
d. Lateral recruitment from other Services and other countries' forces under endorsement from the Mustering sponsor and DGPERS-AF.
Entry SECPOL SI stream. Applications or expressions of interest for permanent re-streaming to SI will be sought when vacancies are identified. SECPOL applicants require a minimum of three years seniority and successful completion of the Service Police Intermediate Course (SPIC). Direct entry applicants to the SI stream will be restricted to suitably qualified personnel with extensive experience from within State or Federal Policing authorities.
Reserve entry. Candidates applying for entry to the RAAF Active Reserve (RAAFAR) must satisfy all the entry requirements as required by permanent SECPOL candidates.
Formal qualifications. The minimum formal qualification is Year 10 or equivalent with passes in English and Mathematics at any level. Previous State, Territory or Federal policing or security experience is deemed advantageous but not mandatory.
Employment Policy. Candidates, having selected an employment stream (SLE or MWDH) will be required to complete a minimum of three years service within that stream before they can apply to re-stream. After successful completion of the SPBC, the member is required to serve a minimum of three years before being eligible for promotion to the rank of CPL in accordance with DI(AF) PERS 5-1. Transfer between streams after promotion to CPL may be considered on a case by case basis. The SI stream is CPL rank minimum and whilst other SECPOL streams have avenues to transfer, SI is a fixed stream.
Licensing requirements. In addition to the general entry requirements, candidates for the SECPOL Mustering must hold a current unrestricted Australian Class 1 (or equivalent) Motor Vehicle licence issued for vehicles with manual transmission. The holder of the licence must be free of traffic infringements that may cause future cancellation of the licence.
Physical requirements. Candidates for the SECPOL mustering must be:
a. Able to pass the RAAF physical fitness test at the operational level;
b. Have visual acuity of better than 6/12 uncorrected and correctable 6/6 with spectacles or contact lenses; and
c. Have normal colour vision.
Other requirements. In addition to licensing and physical requirements of the mustering, candidates must:
a. Be of good character with no criminal convictions (a number of lesser convictions or infringements may also render the applicant ineligible for SECPOL);
b. SECPOL members require a minimum security clearance of SECRET, spent convictions may also render the applicant ineligible for SECPOL.
c. Be suited to physical security work including the ability to work alongside military working dogs and their handlers (if in the SLE or SI streams);
d. Have a temperament and maturity suitable for police and law enforcement work; and
e. Be assessed as suitable for enlistment/remuster by a Security Police Mustering Selection Board.
Military Working Dog Handler requirements. In addition to the above requirements, candidates for MWDH training must:
a. Be assessed as possessing the physical strength, coordination and temperament to ensure adequate control of a military working dog; and
b. Be suited to ground defence operations and fieldwork (females may be excluded from specified tasks such as: AirField Defence Squadron [AFDS] patrolling operations).
Individual Readiness Requirements. IAW DI (AF) OPS 4-8, SECPOL personnel will be required to meet and maintain Individual Readiness (IR) requirements.
Applicant assessment. All applicants for entry to the SECPOL Mustering must be assessed by a dedicated selection Board.

Service Transfer. Navy/Army & Reservist transfer requests are to be submitted through relevant chain of command and career management agency on a completed Form PE 57 Standard Application with associated documentation(psychological/medical /educational/fitness etc).
