Wagga Defence Baby Sitting Club is a friendly, community based club whose aim is to support defence members and their families by offering home based, caring babysitting, in a family environment by our members who may also become your friends.

The Wagga Defence Baby Sitting Club was re-established in January 2009 with the help of the Wagga Defence Community Organisation and a group of likeminded parents who all felt there was a need for low cost, reliable baby sitting in the Wagga area and within the Defence Community.

Wagga can be a particularly challenging posting with 1RTB Kapooka working long hours which in turn leaves little support for spouses and defence members alike. The club is , however, open to all Defence families.

Membership and Meetings

The Club has a number of members who have joined with a variety of different needs ranging from wanting a night out at the movies, to needing before and after school care and while we are not always able to accommodate every individual's needs, we try to offer support by discussing needs at our meetings and perhaps offering ideas and suggestions to our members.

Attending our monthly meetings are mandatory and an essential part of our club running successfully, as members can come together and get to know the other members who will be sitting your children. The meetings are held at the Kapooka Community Centre, which is a child friendly building and of course, children are very welcome!

The Club also holds social gatherings at which the whole family will be invited and although attendance at these occasions is voluntary, it is also an essential part of getting to know the families of other members and a chance to see their parenting in action!

There is no requirement to be a member of the Club to attend our meetings, we pride ourselves on having an open door policy and welcome interested parties to come along and view our meetings taking place.

How it works

The Club uses a token system and after accepting your membership and receiving your membership fee the Club will issue you with a number of tokens which are to be exchanged for the use of babysitting. In return members are required to also babysit so as to replenish their stock of tokens. Membership is subject to approval by the Committee and is restricted to Defence Members and their families only.

Club Rules

  • Members must attend or extend apologies to a committee member before regular meetings.
  • A meeting is to be held on the 1st Tuesday of every month at the Kapooka Community Centre.
  • Babysitting is to be at the child's home unless otherwise arranged and agreed to by both the parent and the carer.
  • Babysitting is to be undertaken by the agreed carer only. The child is not to be left in the care of any other persons at any time, unless agreed to by the parent.
  • If a spouse of a member would like to babysit, they must become a member of the club.
  • A Vital Information form must be left with carer, in the case of an emergency, prior to any sit.
  • Membership is $10 per calendar year, which entitles the member to 10 tokens.
  • One token entitles you to one hour of babysitting for up to three children.
  • A record will be kept by all members of completed sitting hours.
  • Children are not to be removed from the address at which the sit is taking place unless agreed to by both the parent and carer or in the case of a medical emergency.
  • Membership is subject to approval by the Wagga Defence Baby Sitting Committee and is restricted to Defence Members and their families only.
  • Membership may be terminated at the discretion of the Wagga Defence Baby Sitting Committee at any time.
  • Members will only babysit the children listed on the parents application form. No other children are to be present, unless otherwise arranged and agreed to by the carer, prior to the sit.
  • It is the members' responsibility to feel that their child is in a safe environment.
