With effect 1 May 2004, Chief of Army Lieutenant General P.F. Leahy delegated the authority to approve up to 150 Days of voluntary military service that a member of the Active Reserve may render in a training period from 1 July of a year to 30 June of the following year, to officers not below the rank of Brigadier (and equivalents) and other appointments as stated in Reference A. The forms to be used for approval of service of up to 150 days and for approval of service for a specified period between 101 and 150 days are Defence (Personnel) Regulations 2002 (DPR) Regulation 100. (DPR100).
Types Of Service
Continuous Full Time Service
CFTS is Defence service rendered by Reserve members of a continuous nature whilst remaining members of the ADF Reserves. The member is entitled to the same remuneration and conditions of service, and subject to the same service obligations, laws, regulations and procedures as a Permanent Force member. CFTS may be compulsory, following a call-out of a part of the ADF to which the member belongs, or voluntary following the giving of an undertaking to render CFTS by the member and its acceptance by the Service Chief of the member. Voluntary CFTS is normally limited by time and relates to the fulfilment of a specific Service need in keeping with the Reserve member's skills, capabilities and qualifications.
Standby Reserve
The Standby Reserve is a pool of trained personnel that may be used to complete specific Service projects or supplement short term ARA manning shortfalls. Sub Section 50 (4) of the Defence Act provides for members of the Standby Reserve to voluntarily undertake to serve for a specified period (excluding full time military service).

High Readiness Reserve
The HRR comprises of Army Reserve (ARes) members who possess the full suite of Australian Regular Army (ARA) competencies relevant to their employment category and are available for voluntary deployment with their supported ARA or integrated unit or Formation on operations at short notice.
The High Readiness Reserve Training Scheme (HRRTS) has been designed as an alternative avenue of entry into the HRR. The HRRTS will provide a continuous full-time service (CFTS) training option to ab initio entrant Active Reserve (AR) members to enable them to achieve ARA trade competencies within a 12 month period after enlistment leading to eligibility for service in the HRR. HRR positions are contracted positions and are only available in selected Units and ECNs. DI(A) Pers 79-6
Reserve Response Force
Reserve Response Force (RRF)

RRF tasking will comprise individuals and groups trained to perform specified tasks within Australia. The RRF provides a body of personnel who have been trained to a standard that enables them to be employed as a formed group to respond to a range of domestic security or natural disaster situations. Employment Support Payment Scheme
The Employer Support Payment (ESP) Scheme provides financial assistance to employers to help offset the costs of releasing employees for Defence service. ESP is paid at a set weekly rate and is equivalent to the average full-time adult ordinary time earnings (AWOTE), which for FY 06/07 is $1035.90. The rate is reviewed 1 Jul each year , is set for 12 months and the amount paid is regardless of the employee's salary or how the employers disperse the funds. All employers including government organisations, public and proprietary companies, private employers, discretionary or unit trusts and self employed Reservists may be eligible to claim.
WEF 1 Apr 06, Chief of Army has appointed various officers in the APA-B as ESP delegates for all claims in SE SLD. All previous ESP delegates which included Commanding Officers, has been revoked. This has centralised the scheme to one location, alleviating the administrative burden of processing ESP at unit level. All claims received for processing at units, should be forward promptly to:
