SCM Goals
Goals of APA Melbourne's Soldier Career Management Section are:
- Actively manage the careers of individual soldiers on a corps, rank and trade basis.
- Balance career development needs, personal goals and units' needs to ensure the best available person is selected to meet Service needs and capability.
- Select soldiers for promotion, trade or specialists courses to ensure sufficient qualified and suitable personnel are available to meet future Service needs.
- Post soldiers into appointments which will develop them professionally.
- Identify members who have the qualifications, recommendations and attributes necessary for advancement and ensure that their case is presented at the PAC or special PAC each year.
- Consult with the soldier, and Liaise with his/her CO, RSM and/or commanders.
- Identify those members who have indicated an interest and have potential to be successful applicants for AWOCS.
- Liaise with the Transition Cell to identify those members who may be interested in transferring to the ARA or conduct DA50(4) work.
- Carry out briefings or presentations regarding soldier career management in order to educate units on APA-M processes and improve liaison between APA-M and customer units.
- Provide advice to the SO1 SCM on the impact of vacancies within units.
- Assist in the development of priorities for postings to Non-Corps positions.
Admin Support - Roles and Tasks
- Provide administrative management support to the operation of Career Management of General Reserve Other Ranks in the SR.
- In consultation with the CMs develop posting profiles for all NCOs in the SR.
- Provide advice and support to the career managers at APA-M regarding the administration of GRES ORs.
- Provide administrative support to the CMs .
- Liaise with SCMA/DOCM-A where applicable regarding ARA/GRES matters.
- Provide technical advice to units and formations regarding the administration of GRES members.
- Liaise with other Services or external agencies where applicable.
