Army Senior Non-Commissioned Officer & Warrant Officer Commissioning Scheme (ASWOCS)
ASWOCS is a method by which ARA and ARES Warrant Officers (WO) and Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCO), may apply for in-service officer commissioning and can effect a career change within the army, where that career change is in the interest of the service. ASWOCS is not a promotion scheme.
Candidates, whose education, training and experience may be suited to appear before an Officer Selection Board (OSB). Successful applicants are offered employment as a Specialist Service Officer (SSO) with ability to transfer to GSO stream after completing probation period.
The commissioning of highly competitive WO and SNCO into the SSO stream is intended to provide an opportunity for their career development and advancement in competition with other GSO/SSO. The commissioning of WO and SNCO as SSO is intended to meet specific employment needs of the army.
CO/OC of units should clearly state in the members PR14 (Commanding Officer's report) and AC833-22 (soldier performance appraisal report) if they wish to recommend the member for ASWOCS. If the member does not wish to be considered for ASWOCS then no further action to be taken.
CO/OC should promptly nominate all eligible WO1, WO2 and SNCO candidates for further consideration. All nominations (PR14s and AC833-22s), three full face photographs (11 cm x 8 cm) of the applicant (civilian clothes are to be worn and full name is neatly notated on the front of all photographs) are to be forwarded to APA-S attention Ms Moana Palu, OCM section (photocopies will be accepted as a temporary measure). APA-S will notify nominated members and confirm their intention to be considered for ASWOCS.

The selection boards for 2009 are scheduled for Sat 12 Sep 09 for PSO applicants and Sat 19 Sep 09 for GSO applicants. APA-S will notify eligible candidates of selection procedures.
