Defence Force School of Music 'At Home' Concerts

At Home Concert
'AT HOME' CONCERTS

The 'At Home' concert series takes place within the state of-the-art music facility that accommodates us, the Defence Force School of Music (DFSM). The ‘At Home' concerts play an important part in the training of Australian Defence Force musicians.

The primary purpose of these concerts is to give trainees and students, that are under training, the on-the-job experience relevant to the course they are undertaking; whether it be the Basic Musician, Section Leader, Group Leader or Band Officer course.

Band Officer candidates conduct and compere at the ‘At Home' concerts, gaining vital experience for their potential future roles as Music Directors.

The number of staff and trainees at the DFSM is not sufficient to facilitate a 'full band' concert sound; therefore, with the support of the Australian Army Band Melbourne (AAB-M), the DFSM is able to fulfil its training criteria.

The nature of these courses means that the repertoire performed at the 'At Home' concerts is very demanding for both AAB-M musicians and the DFSM students. Thus, concert-goers like yourself are guaranteed to witness a spectacular display of versatility from our musical ensembles, at every 'At Home' concert!

The 'At Home' concert's commences at 11am in Newman Hall, DFSM. Due to the popularity of these concerts, we recommend you arrive early to secure your seat! The staff and trainees of the DFSM and AAB-M wish to thank the 'Friends of the Band' for their commitment to making these concerts a success!
