The 105mm L119 Hamel Gun is the main equipment of 'A' Field Battery. It has a range in excess of 11km and fires numerous projectiles including high explosive, white phosphorus, airburst, smoke and illumination, to name but a few.

The Dull Cherry Beret

Airborne Beret
The Airborne Beret

Synonymous with paratroopers the world over, the dull cherry (maroon) beret is worn proudly by members of 'A' Field Battery as a symbol of their Airborne status. The particular version worn by Battery members features an Artillery badge much smaller than the standard badge and is unique to 'A' Field Battery.

The Parachute Smock

Smock, parachutist.
'Para' smock

Eyed-off with envy by non-para units, the para smock is held near and dear to the hearts of the men of 'A' Field Battery. It is an almost knee-length DPCU jacket with drawstrings at the bottom and the midriff and is emblazoned on the right sleeve with parachute wings. Along with the dull cherry beret, it is also a status symbol reserved solely for the Airborne fraternity.

T10B-D and T10-R Parachutes

Parachutes
Top, the T10B-D parachute and bottom, the T10-R

Seen above are two of the four parachutes used by 'A' Field Battery. The top parachute is the T10D-B, a static-line parachute which is the 'main' parachute and is worn similarly to a backpack. Of note is the yellow static line and the hook. This hook is attached to a cable within the plane and the static line pulls the parachute out of the pack when the paratrooper exits the aircraft, negating the need for the paratrooper to deploy his own parachute. At the bottom is the T10-R, which is a reserve parachute worn across the chest in case of a malfunction with the main. A variation of the T10 parachutes is the MC-1 parachute, which is a manoeuvarable version of the T10. Also used by 'A' Field Battery Forward Observation teams is the MC-5 parachute, which has a square canopy and is highly manoeuvreable compared to either of the T10 parachutes.
