Technician Geomatic

A Technician Geomatic is a soldier who collects, manipulates, portrays, reproduces and distributes spatially referenced earth data. Spatially referenced data includes maps, digital geographic information in vector, raster and matrix form, and geographical coordinates.

Employment Training


You will undertake the first module of the Combat Engineer IET course (three weeks) at the School of Military Engineering (SME), Moorebank, Sydney.


This will be followed by the Geomatic Basic course of six months also conducted at SME. This course covers GIS, terrain analysis and the use of surveying equipment.


Employment Location


A Geomatic Technician may be employed in Brisbane, Sydney, Townsville, Canberra, Perth or Darwin.


Pay


This particular job is classified as a Pay Group 4 occupation.

Civilian Accreditation


This category's courses meet the requirements for both civilian and military authorities and will make you eligible for:

  • Statement of Attainment towards the Certificate III in Spatial Information Services is granted to personnel after 12 months satisfactory performance as a Geomatic Technician.
  • Certificate III in Spatial Information Services is granted to personnel on being assessed as competent as an ARA Corporal.
  • Statement of Attainment towards the Diploma of Spatial Information Services is granted to personnel on being assessed as competent as an ARA Sergeant.
  • Diploma of Spatial Information Services and a Statement of Attainment towards the Advanced Diploma of Spatial Information Services is granted to personnel on being assessed as competent as an ARA Warrant Officer.
