Combat Engineer

The Combat Engineer is the Royal Australian Engineer (RAE) member whose role is to assist in the conduct of a range of combat engineering tasks maintaining mobility of the Army, deny freedom of movement to enemy forces, and provide general engineering support. Combat Engineers are employed in a wide range of activities such as erecting bridges, constructing and operating rafts, assisting in the construction of temporary roads, bypasses and fords, construction of field defences, concreting, producing potable water, conducting demolitions, searching, clearing and disposing of enemy mines and explosive devices and quarrying. Qualifications Pre-requisites Combat Engineers must have successfully completed Year 10 of a 12 Year course of schooling (or equivalent) with passes in English and Mathematics. Employment Training The Combat Engineer IET Course is a 12 week course conducted at the School of Military Engineering (SME), Moorebank, Sydney, NSW. Employment Location Combat Engineers in the Regular Army are employed in Combat Engineer Regiments, Construction Squadrons and the Incident Response Regiment in Townsville, Brisbane, Sydney and Darwin. Combat Engineers in the Reserves are employed in Combat Engineer Regiments and Field Squadrons in most large towns and cities in Australia. Pay This particular job is classified as a Pay Group 3 occupation. |
Trade Progression Combat Engineer (Cbt Engr) is the primary, single entry ECN for RAE. RAE OR's must qualify as a minmum Cbt Engr. Cbt Engr is used as a basis for a number of other trade or specialist branches. These are detailed in the Branch Trades . Civil Accreditation On completion of the IET course a Combat Engineer is awarded a Certificate III in Civil Construction.
