The Cavalry Scout is a soldier who provides specified individual and collective capability which can support, sustain and reinforce Army's operational RAAC units.
The Light Cavalry Regiments/Units are Army Reserve units that can operate either in a mounted or dismounted role. The units are equipped with either the Light Cavalry Patrol Vehicle (LCPV) and the Interim Infantry Mobility Vehicle (IIMV) or the Bushmaster (PMV). A Light Cavalry unit's manning and equipment enable it to conduct a variety of tasks including reconnaissance, surveillance, offensive, defensive, security, peace keeping and support operations
Duties
His primary duty is to operate as a Scout, in tactical and non-tactical situations. He is required to participate in the conduct of reconnaissance, surveillance, offensive, defensive, security, and peace keeping and support operations, employing Specialist Equipment.
Employment Training
Light Cavalry Scout Course: 33 days
After completing military (recruit) training, you will undertake a 17 day Cavalry Scout Grade One, followed by a 16 day Cavalry Scout Grade Two course. Both courses consist of a Weapons and Communications phase followed by Reconnaissance Patrol training. All training is conducted as per local training program, and undertaken regionally.
After a period of service as a driver in a Cavalry Regiment you will be eligible to be trained as a Patrol Commander and LCPV or IIMV driver.
Employment Location
The Cavalry Scout may be employed in Army RAAC units across all major areas within Australia.
Pay
Salary while undertaking or waiting to complete Employment Training: $74.01 per day tax free.
Each General Entry job in the Australian Defence Force is classified into a pay group. This particular job is classified as a Pay Group 2 occupation. Members of the Reserve on part-time service are paid at a daily rate of pay and this occupation attracts a starting rate of $85.20 per day. Once fully trained you will receive $100.23 per day. Your Pay Group will normally increase following the acquisition of additional skills and completion of advanced courses.
In addition to your salary, a Service Allowance of $10.42 per day is payable to compensate for the unique demands of Reserve Service. |
Special Requirements
In addition to being able to pass the Army swim test, applicants must be capable of passing the Armoured Corps swim test which involves duck diving twice through at least two underwater obstacles two metres apart at a depth of not less than 2.5 metres and not more than 3.5 metres measured from the bottom of the obstacle. Applicants are to swim 30 metres in fresh water, or 50 metres in salt water and without leaving the water, remain afloat out of depth for three minutes.
Applicants need to be able to withstand being confined in restricted spaces for extended periods of time and to have the capacity to hold a drivers licence. Applicants who hold a drivers licence are not to have any restrictions pending or imposed by Civil Courts on their current licence.
Medical Requirement
In addition to requirements set out for Army GE, applicants for RAAC must have a visual acuity of 8/3 or better in each eye, and a colour perception (CP) rating of no less than 2. B Sqn 3/4 Cav Regt - Home
