The ADFGY-A are enlisted as defence members and generally have the same entitlements and requirements as all other ARA members. The details below provide guidance in the administration for ADFGY-A members when transferring within the ARA or separating from the ARA.

Transfer to the ARA- Same Corps/Trade

The ADFGY-A Clk will require an AC853, AHA stating by an MO they are fit to transfer to the ARA and a statement from the member which states they understands there IMPS will be adjusted if approved and accepted.

Transfer to the ARA - Different Corps/Trade

  • Prepare and submit AC853 and supporting statement (there is no option in the 'Request to Transfer Box' on the AC853. This will need to be entered manually).
  • Indicate in statement that the applicant understands that he/she is committing to a further initial minimum period of service for the trade.
  • Book a comprehensive preventative health examination (CPHE) through unit RAP. A copy of the soldiers Med Board (PM532) is to be attached to the AC853 detailing PULHEEMS, CP and Medical Employment Classification (MEC)
  • The results of the applicants last BFA is to be attached to the AC853
  • Minors must have their parents or guardians signed consent to apply for ongoing service
Depending on new trade and IAW MAE
  • A psych evaluation, booked through the Unit ord rm, for corps transfer to the requested ECN (IAW MAE) which needs to be done through the regional Psych Spt Sect. This needs to be done ASAP and regardless of MEC.
  • Examples of other doc requirements could be (these are stated in the MAE for the ECN):
  • Education results
  • Security clearance
  • Attach the results of any interviews that the soldier has attended with the gaining corps to AC853
Distribution
  • Once the Unit CO has signed off and the applicant has ack his/her comments, the Unit should then submit all the documentation, in one complete package, to the ADFGY-A Clk by fax. The fax no is 03 5258 0665.
  • The applicant is to advise the TTR WO once the AC853 with all the supporting documentation listed above is submitted, as he will track its progress.

Transfer to the Reserves

  • Prepare and submit AC853 and supporting statement.
  • Book a Separation Health Examination (SHE) through unit RAP. A copy of the SHE should be attached to AC853 at the time of submitting AC853. If not it will be directed by SCMA when/if they approve the Transfer to ARes

Transfer to ADFA/RMC

DOCM-A is currently trialing a new application process for in-service candidates who wish to undergo training at RMC. All ARA / ARes in-service applications are now submitted directly to RMC-A and not through the Defence Force Recruiting Centre.

Transfer to RAAF/RAN

Lateral transfer cell require an AC853, AIRN report, CPHE les than 12 months old and a copy of their record of service long. A statement from the member which states they understand there IMPS will be adjusted if approved and accepted.

Discharge with no further commitment

Separation cell require an AC853 and SHE

Medical Management - MECRB action (include the differences with soldiers transferring to ARA and for those discharging/ARES)

As detailed in Health directive No 285 Paras 18, 19. If member is below MEC 204 and wants to transfer to the ARES then he/she will be presented to a MECRB for a determination. If the member applies for transfer to the ARA and is MEC 301 then he/she will be presented to the MECRB for a determination. If the member is MEC 304 or 403 for more than 3 months he/she will be presented to the MECRB for determination. If MECRB processes are not finalised prior to the end of engagement then the separation of the soldier may be deferred.
