Knowing Your Career and Trade Plan

You as a soldier should be aware of the trade progression for your current and future employment. This knowledge will assist you in ensuring you attend the correct courses, are paid the correct salary and granted the correct qualifications, all of which will help further your career.

SCMA is not the authority for career progression policy, instead it acts upon determinations and outcomes from the Defence Force remuneration Tribunal (DFRT).

The Manual of Army Employments (MAE) originally detailed the management processes associated with Army's various employment categories and also contained their employment specifications.

The management processes have now been separated into a stand alone Defence Instruction.

The MAE will now only contain the employment specifications for all of Army's employment categories. Soldiers qualify in a variety of employments in the Army. The requirements for each employment are described in an employment specification which is identified by a number and a title. These provide in depth information on each employment category.

This is a fluid document that will be maintained by Trade Management Section (TMS), DPERS-A based on advice from the responsible Employment Category Sponsor and Trade Managers. Amendments are promulgated via the DEFWEB.

Once you have entered the DPERS-A website go to: "Publications/Orders" then "MAE". Under the "MAE" directory you will find a list of all Army Corps. Open your Corps folder to list all the relevant Corps trades. These documents list trade requirements for career progression.
