Army SNCO and WO Commissioning Scheme (ASWOCS) and Prescribed Service Officer Commissioning Scheme (PSO)


Army Senior Noncommissioned Officer and Warrant Officer Commissioning Scheme (ASWOCS)

ASWOCS is targeted at SNCO and WO whose education, training and experience will be suited to a wide range of officer appointments.To be eligible for commissioning ASWOCS applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education - year 12 or Subj 1 (WO) or one year of a tertiary course.
  • Rank - all WO and SNCO.
  • Medical - are to be either MEC one or two.
  • AIRN - are to be AIRN compliant.
  • Physical fitness - are to have passed a BFA within the six month prior to the conduct of the paper board.
  • Psych - are to be pysch assessed prior to the conduct of the paper board.
  • CO/OC recommendation - CO/OC are to make a recommendation on a PR14.
  • Employment Preferences and Restrictions (EPAR)- Members are to update their EPAR via PMKeys Self Service (PSS) prior to the paperboard
  • EWP - Attendance at an EWP or exemption test required.

The units of those WO and SNCOs that wish to be considered for ASWOCS and meet the eligible criteria are responsible for:

  • Submitting a typed PR14 (course reports/ROA are not (required).
  • Ensure the member updates their EPAR via PSS.
  • Have a pysch assessment by end of Sep.

These documents are to be submitted to SCMA Prom/PAC cell NLT 2 Nov.

Provision of photographs will only be required if the candidate is successful at the paper board.

Prescribed Service Officer Commissioning Scheme

PSO is generally restricted to Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) and some Warrant Officer Class Two (WO2) whose education, training and experience will be suited to a specific range of selected officer appointments. Successful applicants will be offered employment as a PSO. To be eligible for PSO commissioning applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education. All applicants are to have successfully completed the Effective Writing Program prior to commissioning, and within the last five years.
  • Rank. All regular and reserve applicants are to have attained the substantive rank of WO1. Applications from WO2 may be considered based on service need.
  • Medical. Applicants are to be either Medical (Med) Class 1 or 2. Med Class 3 may be considered where there is a service need.
  • AIRN. Applicants are to be AIRN compliant.
  • Psychological. Applicants are to be psychologically assessed prior to the conduct of the interview.
  • CO/OC recommendation. The applicants CO/OC is to make a recommendation on a Form PR 14-Member is to update the individual employment and restrictions via PSS before the conduct of the Paper Board. Should the applicant receive a non-recommendation from their CO/OC, no further action will be undertaken by SCMA/APA
  • EWP - Attendance at an EWP or exemption test required.

The units of those WO that wish to be considered for PSO, and meet the eligible criteria are responsible for:

  • Submitting a typed PR 14 (course reports/ROA are not (required).
  • Completing and updated AD148 on PMKeys Self Service (PSS).
  • A Pysch Assessment
