Role

The role of ASSG is to provide an Active Reserve staff officer capability to augment the planning of Army, Joint and Defence sponsored projects in order to deliver Army capability.

What is the ASSG?

The ASSG (PDF)

  • is an Active Reserve unit that exists under the Career Management Army structure;
  • provides staff support to Army, Joint and other Defence organisations;
  • consists of a team of experienced, highly qualified Active Reserve (AR) Officers and Non Commissioned Officers;
  • has access to Standby Reserve (SR) capabilities in consultation with DOCM-A and Regional Army Personnel Agencies (APA);
  • the majority of ASSG members have previous full-time experience or extensive Active Reserve service;
  • maintains a staff element of Officers and Senior NCOs to support identified Headquarters at short notice; and
  • has elements located in all major regional centres, capable of being used anywhere in Australia and on operations.

What are the Tasks of the ASSG?

ASSG Tasks:

  • Provision of staff support to AHQ, Joint and Defence organisations as requested.
  • Develop and maintain staff elements of Officers and Warrant Officers to support identified Headquarters on short notice - Reserve Augmentation Staff (RAS).

Interested in Transferring to the ASSG?

You may be finishing in the ARA and wish to continue in the Active Reserve as a project officer or you may have been serving in other parts of the Army Reserve and wish to apply your skills more widely.

If you are a highly motivated person with the desire and skills that can be applied to support projects, the ASSG wants YOU!

Your skills are fully utilised in Regular Army work environments. Work is done on a negotiated basis eg two week blocks, up to six month (or more) full time service blocks.
While a member of ASSG you maintain your experience base as well as being eligible for promotion courses and consequently promotion.
