Introduction
Welcome to the Army Personnel Agency - Townsville web site. This site is provided for all serving personnel in the Regular Army and Army Reserve who require information about serving in or with the Active Army Reserve or Standby Reserve in North Queensland. APA Townsville is structured and staffed to provide career management support to all Army Reservists in the North. This important function is undertaken in conjunction with commanders and staffs of the Army Reserve units in the region. This web page provides a variety of information, tools and links to assist individuals in career management matters. Mission:
To provide effective officer and soldier career management for the ARes in the North Queensland in order to contribute to the delivery of the Reserve personnel dimension of capability to the Army.

Commander's Biography

As a junior officer he served in a variety of command, regimental and staff appointments in Land Command. As a CAPT he served in both HQ 3 Bde and 1 Div as a logistics operations staff officer as well as at the Army School of Transport as an Instructor. Promoted to Major in 1988, he was the S3 at HQ 9 Tpt Regt before serving with ASC UNTAG in Namibia in 1989/90. In 1991/92 he was the OC 5 TPT Sqn and attended C&SC Queenscliff in 1993. He returned to Puckapunyal in 1994 where he completed a string of postings at the Army School of Transport and DMOVT-A as a Major, and at the CATDC as the first Deputy Director of the Force Development Group as a LTCOL. He was selected as the Director of the US Army Logistics Management College in Fort Lee, Virginia where he served from 1999 to 2002. Upon return to Australia he commanded the Army School of Transport in the ALTC until his deployment as the J4 on JTF633 in Baghdad from Aug 2003 to April 2004. In Jun 2004 he was promoted to COL and served as the DPERSOPS-A on AHQ working directly to the CA. COL Overell transferred to the Army Reserve in Feb 2007 where he commenced his first AR appointment as the DAPA-T COL Overell has been happily married to Mary for more than 28 years and resides in Townsville. Their son Colin serves in the RAN and is presently posted to the Amphibious Warfare Gp out of Cairns. In his civilian employment, COL Overell is a Defence Consultant. His hobbies include reading, developing their first home and trying desperately to reduce his golf handicap. |
