Australian Army Band Perth

The Defence Music Centre - Western Australia is a facility that is host to two military music ensembles, The Australian Army Band Perth and the Australian Army Pipes and Drums Perth. Whilst both bands are Army Reserve Units they have a full time Officer Commanding / Music Director and a Band Sergeant Major.
The Australian Army Band Perth was formed in 1949. Originally a Brass Band known as the Western Command Band, it was converted to a Concert Band in 1972.
1992 was a landmark year. The Band received it's current title and was conferred with the distinction of Freedom of Entry to the City of Perth in recognition of the Band's outstanding achievements and long, close association with the city.
Another major change occurred in 1993. The Band was transformed from a full time Regular Army Band to an Army Reserve Band of 42 Army Reserve Soldier/Musicians who perform mainly on weekends and public holidays.
Regardless of the change from full time to part time, The Australian Army Band Perth, based at Irwin Barracks, retains a prominent position in Western Australia. This distinguished group of soldier/musicians maintains a high standard of performance at official and public performances in Perth and throughout
Western Australia.
Australian Army Pipes and Drums Perth
The Band's current title was granted 1 March 1999. This Band maintains a traditional link to 16 Battalion through the wearing of the 'Cameron of Erracht' tartan. Unlike other Australian Army Pipes and Drums, the Perth Band are members of the Australian Army Band Corps and, therefore, entitled to wear the Band Corps badge. Soloists, small groups or the full ensemble have made the Band's diversity renowned throughout Western Australia and beyond.
