The Australian Army Band Corp's operational role is to entertain troops who have been deployed overseas in an operational environment. As a part of this role AABC bands also perform concerts for the local population in operational areas. AABC bands have been deployed to the Pacific island of Bougainville since 1997. On deployment to Bougainville the bands come under the command of the Peace Monitoring Group (PMG) - which consists of members from the Defence Forces of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji as well as members of the Constabulary of Vanuatu.

The role of the bands in Bougainville is to assist in the peace process by performing concerts to the local population and through this, bring together the different factions through their music. The bands also perform for troops deployed to Bougainville at PMG Headquarters stationed at Loloho and travel to the Team Sites in Arawa, Buka, Buin, Wakunai and Tonu.
