Exercise ARAPILES ADVENTURE

Arapiles Adventure is a beginner level activity that aims to teach participants how to rock-climb.

Each year in May and September, the AAA and the Australian Defence Force Academy head to Mt Arapiles in western Victoria for one week to learn how to rock climb. This activity is run over five days and is aimed at beginners, however, all members are welcome. An example itinerary:

Day One. Collect stores. Top-roping at ADFA climbing wall.

Day Two. Travel to Arapiles. Establish camp.

Day Three. (Morning) Top-roping. (Afternoon) Single-pitch climbing.

Day Four. (Morning )Intro to leading/seconding. (Afternoon) Short multi-pitch climb.

Day Five. Adventure multi-pitch climb.

Day Six. Climbing tailored to individual development.

Day Seven. Pack-up camp. Return to Canberra.

Day Eight. Clean and return stores.

This activity is generally fully funded and all climbing equipment can be sourced from the AAA and Regional Adventure Training Store, so participants generally only need to bring clothing and a small amount of cash for their personal use.

The dates for these activities are contained in the Calendar , as are the contact details for the activity coordinator. An exercise instruction is sent to all participants, and this contains all the detailed information required to prepare for the activity.
