8/12 Mdm Regt Mission
ROLE
The Regiment has a fundamental commitment to provide Offensive Support to Headquarters 1st Brigade and its three manoeuvre units; 1st Armoured Regiment, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, and 5th/7th Battalion (Mechanised).
CAPABILITIES
8th/12th Medium Regiment provides the following capabilities to accomplish its mission:
- A two shift Joint Offensive Support Coordination Centre (JOSCC), previously named Fire Support Coordination Centre (FSCC), to Headquarters 1st Brigade. The JOSCC coordinates all offensive fire available to the Brigade, including offensive air and naval gun fire support;
- Support to the 5th/7th (Mechanised) Battalion, 1st Armoured Regiment, and 2nd Cavalry Regiment, currently provided by 103rd Medium Battery. At the same time they have been tasked to maintain the ADF's medium artillery capability and assist in maintaining the ADF's mechanised capability. 103rd Medium Battery are also subject experts in Civil-Military Operations, and have provided a large number of their command personnel to Operation Warden in East Timor and recently to Operation XXX in Iraq.
