The 8th Combat Service Support Battalion includes men and women who undertake a wide variety of jobs to keep the 8th Brigade and its Units functioning. Headquarters & Logistic Support Company

Battalion Headquarters is located at Dundas in Sydney. The Headquarters encompasses the Operations cells and includes the Commanding Officer (CO), Second-in-Command (2IC), Adjutant (ADJT), Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) and the Operations Major, who are the key senior staff within the Battalion.

Logistic Support Company is primarily located at Adamstown. Elements of this company, such as the Quartermaster's Store and orderly room staff are located in both the Dundas and Adamstown depots. Jobs available include Army Chefs (Catering Corps), Admin & Pay Clerks (Pay Corps) and Operator Supply (Ordinance Corps).

(RACT)

Transport Company

The Transport Company of 8 CSSB, is responsbile for the provision of transport support to the 8th Brigade's sub-units. Transport Company is based at Adamstown (Newcastle) though some drivers are attached to support other sub-units at Dundas (Sydney).

Members of Transport Company can be trained to drive a number of different vehicles including Landrovers, Motorcycles, Uni-Mogs and Mack Trucks by becoming a Transport Driver. Military licences for these medium to heavy vehicles (4-10 tonne) can even be transferred across to civilian licences! As a member of transport company you can be involved in major stores lifts and convoys.

Health Services Company

The Health Services Company is responsible for the medical, dental and psychological health of 8 Brigade's personnel. Health Services Company provides health support services to the Brigade's sub-units both in and out of field.

Elements of the Company are located at both of 8 CSSB's depots (Dundas (Sydney) and Adamstown (Newcastle)). These elements come together to form the Health Services Company of 8 CSSB while on exercise or operations. On operations these people operate the Medical, Dental and Psychological support teams that ensure our people receive the best of care before, during or after operations.

The Health Services Company includes elements such as medical, nursing, psych and dental (see Corps badges on left and right). Members can join Health Services as a Direct Entry Officer, utilising their civilian trade of employment - e.g., Nurse, Doctor, etc. Alternatively they may join as General Entry Soldier - e.g., Medical Assistant, Medical Orderly or Psychological Examiner.

Ordinance Corps
(RAAOC)

Supply Company

Supply Company is responsible for providing sub-units of the 8th Brigade with logistics support and replenishment to undertake operations. Supply Company is primarily located at Dundas in Sydney.

Members of Supply Company are mostly from the Royal Australian Army Ordinance Corps (Corps emblem on left). They work within a variety of environments from the warehouse to distribution while in the field. Supply Company provides all 'classes of supply', including most importantly combat supplies, such as petroleum, rations, and ammunition.

Jobs available with Supply Company include, Operator Supply (technical storeman for a wide variety of military stores and ammunitions), Logistics Operators (who You control the issue and receipt of stores and equipment from guns to clothing) and Petroleum Operators (bulk field fuel storage and issue management with lab technology).


Corps of
Royal Australian Electrical & Mechanical Engineers
(RAEME)

Workshop Company

Workshop Company provides electrical and mechanical support to the Brigade. The Company is located at Adamstown, Newcastle.

Members of the Corps of Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RAEME) form the backbone of the Workshop Company. Jobs available within Workshop Company include both technical and non-technical fields. In order to be employed within a technical field, a person must either have prior civilian qualifications or be willing to join the Army Reserve Trade Training Scheme.

Technical jobs include, Vehicle Mechanic (for fully qualified motor mechanics, heavy commercial vehicle mechanic or diesel fitter), Metalsmith (Fitter & Turner sheet metal worker/welder), Fitter Armament (Fitter & Turner general/small engine repair) and Technical electrical (generator repair, refrigerator or air conditioner mechanic) Technical Electrical Systems (Radio/Telecommunications Systems/Electronics Mechanic). Other non-technical jobs include a Recovery Mechanic, and production clerk.
