SGT Chris Renall RAEME

A Critical Part of Gunnery Support

SGT Chris Renall is the Battery's Artificer. SGT Renall looked after the Battery's six guns and multiple other equipment. He continues to service those guns with the love and pride that he has for his trade and always attends field exercises and whenever the Guns have a "live firing" commitment to make sure his "babes" are being looked after.
What is an Articifer you ask? With the development of firearms, cannon and mortars, armourers and artificers are tradesmen of particular high skills.
These "craftsmen" have a tradition of skills and pride in their workmanship. The name "Craftsman" is the rank exclusive to RAEME private soldiers and is a full time occupation. They inspect, repair, modify and recondition a wide range of military weapon systems (including small arms, Armoured Fighting Vehicles and Artillery), plant equipment, marine equipment, diving equipment and watercraft as well as performing general engineering tasks.
They are responsible for ensuring the Army's equipment operates reliably and efficiently and is expeditiously restored to useful condition after failure or damage.
SGT Renall takes on these tasks and keeps the M2A2 105mm howitzers operational despite their long and distinguished service with the Royal Australian Artillery.
