Transport Platoon is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Battalion's vehicle fleet. The three broad area's of responsibility are Tasking, Driver Maintenance and Driver Training.
- Tasking. Drivers perform a variety of driving tasks in support of the unit's operational and administrative activities. These range from the transport of personnel to and from the airport, medical appointments etc, to direct support to the companies for operational patrol periods and training courses.
- Driver Maintenance. Drivers perform non-technical inspections on all their vehicles and trailers, and carry out repairs of a non-technical nature such as replacement of globes and fuses, top up of oils, and repair or replace tyres and tubes.
- Driver Training. Transport Platoon is responsible for training drivers in the correct operation of the vehicles, including cross-country driving, winching and vehicle recovery, driving at night with Night Vision Equipment, and vehicle maintenance. Vehicle driver's courses are conducted twice per year, and experienced drivers assist with instruction of trainee drivers.
The most common vehicle the Platoon operates is the Regional Force Surveillance Vehicle (RFSV), although other vehicle types include the 6x6 Landrover, 4x4 Unimog, Toyota Landcruiser, Mitsubishi Rosa, and a variety of other commercial trucks and cars.
