A Brief History
CSSB was formally raised on the 5th of December 1992 from the amalgamation of the following units:
2nd Field Ambulance (2 Fd Amb);
3rd Field Supply Company (3 Fd Sup Coy);
9th Transport Squadron (9 Tpt Sqn);
16th Field Dental Unit (16 Fd Dent Unit);
29th Combat Supplies Platoon (29 Cbt Sup Pl); and
102nd Field Workshops (102 Fd Wksps).
When the 6 original units amalgamated in December 1992, the newly formed unit was known as the 3rd Brigade Administrative Support Battalion (3 BASB). It was not until December 2000 that the unit became what it is known today, the 3rd Combat Service Support Battalion (3 CSSB).
Logistics plays an important role in all Australian Defence Force operations. In recent times 3 CSSB has provided support to a number of operations in the form of medical and dental support, transportation, supply and maintenance support. Formed bodies from 3 CSSB or its original parent units have deployed on the following overseas tours:
