Combat Service Support
(CSS) Company, previously known as Administrative Company, is
located at Pymble. Its function is one which remains unchanged
both in peace time and in war and is to resupply the combat elements
of the Battalion with ammunition, food, water, fuel and anything
else to win the battle.
Current members of CSS specialise in either Catering, Transport, Medical, or the Q Stream (Logistics). Courses are provided to members to either hone their existing skills or to learn a specialty from scratch. For example if you were to join CSS you could be driving a 4 tonne truck in six months as long as you were able to attend the courses. Some specialties take longer than others to develop of course.
Many of the skills picked up by being a member of this Company are directly applicable to civilian occupations as well and may attract credit in courses or in trade qualifications. For example the truck license received through the Army can qualify you for the equivalent civilian licence code.
CSS members are critical in all operations and in recent times have been part of deployments to Butterworth in Malaysia and to East Timor. The diversity of the skills of our people is seen through the brief profiles given in the pages to follow. Although we are part of an Infantry Battalion you are not required to be an infantryman first.
You are most welcome to see for yourself how being a cook, a driver, a medic or part of the Q store can be both rewarding and challenging. We train on Tuesday Nights at the Suakin Barracks in Pymble from 7.30pm to 10.30pm.
