Whether you are unsure of a fulltime Army career and want to try it out on a part-time basis first, or you are keen to acquire new skills, develop leadership potential, make new friends, get fit and travel, service in a unit like 2/17 RNSWR will be both rewarding and challenging to you. Entry Test Day
Prior to enlisting you will need to attend a One Day Test day at the recruiting centre closest to you. There you will be required to sit a number of tests to determine your eligibility for Army Service. These tests include:
What happens after I join?
After you join the Army Reserve as a General Enlistment soldier you will need to undertake six weeks of basic training at Kapooka, near Wagga in South Western NSW. This training can be done either in one 6 week block or two 3 week modules.
On recruit course, recruits acquire the basic knowledge, skills and physical fitness required to become an integral part of one of the units.
After this basic training, recruits undertake their specialist Infantry training (called IET or Initial Employment Training) as a member of the Royal Australian Infantry Corps.

Pay
All Army Reserve pay is tax-free and wont affect your Austudy allowances. On top of this, there are many allowances such as for meals and for living in the field when on exercises, to compensate for any hardships of Infantry training.
