Company Headquarters
A message from Major Rohan Aitkin, Officer Commanding Delta Company 11th/28th Battalion Royal Western Australia Regiment
Delta (D) Company recruits and trains members from the Perth Metropolitan and Rockingham City regions of the Battalion footprint. The Company Headquarters is located at Retimo Lines in Irwin Barracks Karrakatta and has one rifle platoon of trained soldiers and another platoon of soldiers under training. A third platoon is located at a depot in Dixon Road, Rockingham.
With a strength of over 100 soldiers the Company provides soldiers who are trained to the Regular Army standards and who are able to deploy in support of Defence Force operations both in Australia and overseas at short notice. Recently 20 soldiers from the Company deployed to the Solomans Islands in support of the Federal Police in a peace keeping role. Other soldiers in the Company are trained as a Reserve Response Force and are on short term notice to deploy for any homeland emergency or in support of civil authorities. These soldiers have been actively used recently for the visit of the Pope to Australia and previously for the G8 summit in Sydney.
Training forms the majority of the Company's activities where soldiers train in peace keeping, war fighting, use of all infantry weapons and equipment and physical fitness. We also undertake ceremonial parades every year and enjoy sports and social events and keep up the Regimental traditions of the previous generations.
Later this year 2008, the Company offers the opportunity for its soldiers to deploy to the Solomans or Malaysia, or to train on exercise with a Brigade of the Regular Army, as well as train in the clearance of buildings or rock climbing and abseiling.
