Defence remuneration decisions support the achievement of Defence outcomes by:
- ensuring employees are remunerated according to the classification of their job;
- assisting the recruitment, retention and development of skilled employees;
- promoting organisational and individual effectiveness, efficiency and performance;
- fostering a cohesive and cooperative workplace; and
- underpinning Defence and APS Values and culture, with levels of remuneration and benefits being seen as fair and reasonable by employees, the Government and the community.
Salary
Defence offers a generous salary package including superannuation. For our salary scale referenced in the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement DECA 2012 - 2014 (Annex D Salary Scales).
Pay progression
Defence recognises the efforts of employees who have sustained good performance and behaviour over the annual performance cycle by making available performance progression. If all the requirements are met this payment is up to 4.2% depending on where the employee falls in their salary range. If at the top of their level employees receive either a lump-sum payment or 1% of their salary, whichever is greater.
Salary Packaging
Defence offers salary packaging arrangements, however employees are encouraged to seek financial advice before accessing them. There are a range of items that can be packaged such as cars, computer equipment, child-care and superannuation. A service provider administers the arrangements. (See DECA Part G11).
