Successful Applicants
The successful applicant/s will be advised verbally that they are the preferred candidate for the position. Subject to continued interest in the position, the successful applicant/s will then receive a 'Letter of Offer' explaining further requirements that must be met. Depending on whether the successful applicant is currently an APS employee, the further requirements may include providing proof of citizenship, identification, attending and meeting the health assessment requirements and satisfying both character and security checks.
Successful applicant/s will be asked to accept the offer of employment within 21 days of the 'Letter of Offer'.
Important - If you receive a 'Letter of Offer', do not take steps to terminate your current employment until you have been advised by Defence that you have satisfied these conditions.
After you have met all of the above requirements, you will be sent a letter confirming employment arrangements with Defence and a start date will be confirmed.
Unsuccessful Applicants
Once the successful applicant has been notified, unsuccessful applicants will be advised in writing as soon as possible. Unsuccessful applicants may contact the selection co-ordinator for post-assessment feedback.
Merit List
You may receive notification advising that you have been placed on a merit list. A merit list is a list of applicants deemed suitable for the position. A merit list may rank candidates in order of suitability (for example: highly suitable, suitable).
Should the same or a similar position become vacant during the 12 months after the original
vacancy was advertised, the order of merit may be used to select an applicant to fill the position.
Commencing work - Probation
Engagement with the Department will be conditional on the successful (either ongoing or non-ongoing) applicant satisfactorily completing a probation period which is generally six months unless otherwise advised. During this time your conduct and work performance is assessed to determine whether they meet Defence standards.
