Non-ongoing Employment Register

The Department of Defence manages Non-ongoing Employment Registers in five regional areas across Australia.

Non-ongoing opportunities of less than 12 months

On occasions the Department of Defence employs people on a short-term basis. These jobs will be generally for periods of less than 12 months.

Examples of short term jobs:

  • Clerical / Office Administration
  • Information Technology
  • Customer Service / Call Centre
  • Health / Medical Services
  • Finance Management / Accounts Payable / General Procurement
  • Human Resource Management
  • Social Work
  • Stores

If short-term employment is what you are looking for submit an application using the application form provided. You will also be required to supply a current CV including 2 contactable referees who can comment on your work performance and a 2 page response to the relevant job level for short term or Non-ongoing jobs. Please click here for selection criteria.

As part of that process it is necessary for a character assessment to be developed. With your application it would be appreciated if you could arrange for 2 Employer Character Referee Reports to be completed and submitted with your application. Please click here for the Employer Character Referee Report.

Applications can be sent by email (as an attachment) to the region you have chosen. Where email is not possible please phone the relevant region to discuss whether you may fax or post your application.

If you would like to be placed on a Non-ongoing (Temporary) Employment Register you may be subject to an interview and an Australian Federal Police records check. To be eligible for employment you must be an Australian Citizen and if you have received a redundancy benefit from an Australian Public Service (APS) agency, the Australian Parliamentary Service or the Murray-Darling Basin Commission (MDBC) limitations to when you are able to be employed may apply. The limitations are linked to the level of redundancy benefit received. More information on redundancy benefit conditions can be obtained from the Australian Public Service Commission website.
