The Department of Defence manages Non-ongoing Employment Registers in five regional areas across Australia.
Non-ongoing opportunities of less than 12 months
On occasions the Department of Defence employs people on a short-term basis. These jobs will be generally for periods of less than 12 months.

Health / Medical Services
Finance Management / Accounts Payable / General Procurement
Human Resource Management
Social Work

As part of that process it is necessary for a character assessment to be developed. Applications can be sent by email (as an attachment) to the region you have chosen. Where email is not possible please phone the relevant region to discuss whether you may fax or post your application.
If you would like to be placed on a Non-ongoing (Temporary) Employment Register you may be subject to an interview and an Australian Federal Police records check. To be eligible for employment you must be an Australian Citizen and if you have received a redundancy benefit from an Australian Public Service (APS) agency, the Australian Parliamentary Service or the Murray-Darling Basin Commission (MDBC) limitations to when you are able to be employed may apply. The limitations are linked to the level of redundancy benefit received. More information on redundancy benefit conditions can be obtained from the Australian Public Service Commission website.
