ANZAC Day 2007
Able Seaman Christopher Cooper - Cherrybrook Man At ANZAC Cove
This ANZAC Day will be a bit different for Cherrybrook's Chris Cooper. Chris is now in the Navy, and he'll be part of Australia 's official contingent at ANZAC Cove itself.
"I joined the Navy in 2002 after finishing at Cherrybrook Technical High School ," said Chris. "After basic training at HMAS CERBERUS near Melbourne , I specialised in mine warfare at HMAS WATERHEN.
"At sea, it means my job is to use the sonar to detect mines. But now I'm in the Federation Guard which you have to volunteer for. As well as being a Guardsman, and I also command the Guards' Corps of Drums.
"Gallipoli is not my first trip overseas. I've already been around south-east Asia and the Solomons, as well as all round Australia .
"There's only a one in ten chance of being chosen for Gallipoli so this deployment is a great honour. For me it's also a once in a lifetime chance to show respect to all the defence men and women that have served our country."
