ANZAC Day 2007

Corporal Craig Townsend - IPSWICH SOLDIER AT ANZAC COVE

Low Res | High Res

This ANZAC Day Ipswich's Craig Townsend is on the far side of the world. Craig is now in the Federation Guard and he's part of Australia 's official contingent at ANZAC Cove itself.

""I joined the Army after Woodridge State High School ," said Craig. "First I specialised as a combat engineer - called a sapper - which means helping prepare defences or prepare the way for an attack.

"Then I volunteered for the Federation Guard and was lucky enough to be accepted.

"Gallipoli is not my first overseas trip - I also served in Timor Leste as a combat engineer. But to be at Gallipoli on the anniversary of the landings, it's an honour."
