ANZAC Day 2007
30 April 2007 Representatives from HMAS Kuttabul made the journey from HMAS Kuttabul, Sydney for the Anzac Day Service held at Hampden State Primary School along with about 400 local residents. Hampden State Primary School is the teaching place in the small town of Mirani, located approximately 28 kilometres west of Mackay in tropical North Queensland. The once-prominent sugar cane industry has now given way to the more lucrative coal mining industry which now is the main income for many of the neighbouring families and communities. Hampden is more of a country school than its Mackay counterparts, with many of its students arriving by bus from up to 100 kilometres away, from neighbouring small towns or farms in the sugar growing, Pioneer Valley. |
