ANZAC Day 2006

25 April 2006
Anzac Day commemorations in Bomaderry

Anzac Day, 25 April, is the annual commemoration led by the veterans community of the landing of Australian and New Zealand forces on the Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey, in 1915.

The "spirit of Anzac", with its human qualities of courage, mateship and sacrifice, has developed wider meaning and relevance for Australia's sense of national identity, as well as for the national identity of Turkey. On this day, the service of war veterans is acknowledged in ceremonies held in towns and cities across Australia.

The ever-growing public attendances testify to the significance of Anzac Day for all Australians.

Australian Defence personnel deployed in Iraq, Afghanistan, Solomon Islands, East Timor and other regions have held Anzac Day 2006 services and parades. Serving Defence personnel participated in ceremonies held across Australia.
