ANZAC Day 2004

25 April 2004
Anzac Day Dawn Service, Gallipoli

An Australian Defence Force official party to Gallipoli comprising 28 members of Australia's Federation Guard and the Royal Australian Navy Band commemorated the 89th anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli in the dawn service on Sunday 25 April 2004.

More than 10,000 people - mostly young Australian travellers - attended the 2004 Anzac Day dawn service in Gallipoli, including the Minister for Defence Senator Robert Hill and the Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Angus Houston.

Anzac Day honours those who served and gave their lives in the service of the nation. It is a day of commemoration and reflection.

The "Anzac spirit" remains inspirational to Australian Service personnel. Joint commemoration of the Gallipoli campaign, including ceremonies at the Turkish war memorial on Anzac Parade in Canberra, continues as a special part of the growing bilateral relationship between Australia and Turkey.
